EBT Card Activation
SNAP & Cash Benefits

Activate your EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card by calling your state's toll-free number or visiting a PIN-select kiosk. Your card gives access to SNAP food benefits and/or cash assistance.

How to Activate Your EBT Card

ℹ️ Important: EBT cards are issued by individual states. The activation process varies slightly by state. Look for your state's customer service number on the back of your card or the card carrier envelope.
1

Find Your State's EBT Number

Check the back of your EBT card for the customer service phone number. This is a toll-free 800 number unique to your state.

2

Call the EBT Activation Number

Call the number → select your language → enter your 16-digit EBT card number → follow the prompts for "first-time activation" or "new card."

3

Select Your PIN

You'll be prompted to create a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). Choose something you can remember but don't write on the card. Enter it twice to confirm.

4

Activate at a Kiosk (Optional)

Many states offer PIN-select kiosks at SNAP offices or participating grocery stores. Insert your card and follow the on-screen instructions.

5

Check Your Balance

After activation, call the number on the back of your card and select "Check Balance" to verify your SNAP and/or cash benefits are loaded.
